Contempt hearing gets fiery with unexpected Hunter Biden appearance: Live coverage

The Republican-led House of Representatives has just returned to Washington, D.C., and immediately resumed its investigation into the Biden administration.

On Wednesday morning, two separate Republican committees are scheduled to consider a resolution to hold President Biden's son Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for failing to respond to a subpoena last month.

Hunter Biden appeared at a meeting of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, surprising the committee.

At the same time, the House Homeland Security Committee began its first impeachment hearing against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

Meanwhile, lawmakers in both the House and Senate are rushing to craft spending bills to avoid a partial government shutdown within 10 days. Additionally, border negotiations are heating up in the Senate.

It's already been a lively and unexpected day in the hills. Follow our live updates below.
