Stupid season has arrived early in F1.
A few weeks before pre-season testing, major changes are being made at Haas F1. Early Wednesday morning, news broke that the team's technical director, Simone Resta, had resigned. According to an Italian report, motorsportLesta was frustrated by the lack of “motivation” within the team.
But then there was a big lightning strike.
Lesta is not the only player left, as team principal Günther Steiner is also out.
As previously mentioned, Ayao Komatsu, the team's trackside engineering director, will become the team's new team principal.
Team owner Gene Haas addressed the change in a subsequent social media post.
Mr. Komatsu also commented on this move as follows:
The team did not respond to requests for comment before publication.
Steiner has been with the team since its inception and helped build the American-based F1 team from the ground up. Steiner recruited many of the team's early members to Haas and has been team principal since the first season in 2016.
Steiner has also become one of the most recognizable figures in F1, thanks to his star turn from the Netflix documentary series. Drive to survive. He was a featured player dating back to the first season of drive to surviveAnd last season began with him and former Ferrari manager Mattia Binotto visiting one of Binotto's vineyards in a small Fiat.
Both have now withdrawn from F1.
