On Friday, a bagel shop owner from Tacoma, Washington, was shot and killed while vacationing in New Orleans with her husband.
One man is dead after a homicide near Bourbon and Kelelec streets early Friday morning, New Orleans police said.
The Tacoma News Tribune reported that police said the gunman approached 32-year-old Jacob Carter, then shot him and fled the scene.
Carter, who was with her husband Daniel Blagovich at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He died in my arms,” Blagovic told the magazine on Monday.
Mr. Blagovic and Mr. Carter are business partners who opened Howdy Bagels, which was launched as a farmers market operation, before the two opened a store in Tacoma in June of this year.

Jake was tragically murdered in New Orleans on January 5th while on vacation with his husband Daniel,” the company wrote on its Instagram and GoFundMe page. ” he posted. “Those who knew Jake know that he was a man who exuded kindness, warmth, and genuine concern for everyone he met. Jake touched the lives of everyone he loved. He was one of the brightest.”
Howdy Bagel said Carter's loss is immeasurable to the community.
In the wake of Carter's death, a GoFundMe campaign raised more than $224,000 to support Blagovic and Howdy Bagel.

The News Tribune reported that Carter was born and raised in Texas. He and Blagovic founded Howdy His Bagels as a company that is proudly queer. This resulted in fans lining up for hours at Carter and Blagovic's pop-up locations in Tacoma and Seattle.
