Todd and Julie Chrisley will receive a $1 million settlement from the state of Georgia over their lawsuit against former Georgia Department of Revenue Special Investigations Director Joshua Weitz.

The lawsuit, filed in 2019, alleges misconduct in the state's investigation into tax evasion charges, which were ultimately cleared.

However, the couple were later convicted of federal fraud and tax evasion and sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison. Their sentences were commuted last year, and Todd is scheduled to be released in 2033 and Jui in 2028.

“We have said for months that the criminal case against the Chrisleys is highly unusual and has real problems,” Alex Little, the Chrisleys' attorney, said in a press release Wednesday. Stated. “This settlement is an encouraging sign. It is almost unprecedented for one branch of the government to pay money to a defendant while another branch is fighting to keep him in prison.”

The Atlanta Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear the couple's appeal in April, Little said. They deny the charges.

“While Waits' efforts ultimately failed, the Chrisleys suffered significant personal and financial hardship in the process,” the lawsuit states, according to People magazine.
