Chris Christie, who withdrew from the Republican primary Wednesday night, mocks Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and former Gov. Nikki Haley for being “petrified” about their unlikely chances of defeating former President Donald Trump. Caught on hot mic.
The accident could cause DeSantis and Haley to accidentally kneel as Christie retires from the race. In recent days, pressure has increased on Christie to stand down in favor of Haley.
“We know we're right, but they don't want to hear it,” Christie told a man who identified himself as “Wayne.” “They don't want to hear it. We know we're right, but they don't want to hear it.”
“It couldn’t have been more clear. [been] I had to be more direct or work less hard,” Christie said of the failed campaign.
Christie then pointed to campaign spending to demonstrate how well her campaign fared compared to DeSantis and Haley's campaigns.
“She's spent $68 million so far on television alone,” Christie said. “DeSantis spent $59 million, and we spent $12.” [million]. In other words, who is punching above their weight and who is getting a return on their investment? ”
“She's going to smoke,” Christie added. “You and I both know she doesn't mean it.”
“She's still 20 points behind Trump in New Hampshire, right?” Wayne asked Christie.
“Yeah. Oh, yeah,” Christy replied.
“And he's still going to continue,” Wayne asked.
“Oh, yeah,” Christie answered.
“I talked to DeSantis, he called me, and I was scared that I would do that,” Christie said before the microphone went off.
Mr. DeSantis previously called Mr. Christie to let him know that he valued Christie's role in the race, regardless of his decision to stay or withdraw.Christie was one of Trump's strongest critics throughout the primaries, sources said. Confirmed Go to NBC News.
Ms. Christie also criticized Ms. Haley in the phone call, calling her a joke, saying her performance was “terrible and not up to the task,” a source told NBC News.
