Yankees make contract offer to Blake Snell in MLB free agency

The Yankees have made an opening offer to top free agent starter Blake Snell, the Post reported.

But with little evidence of major progress on Snell or two other top rotation targets, free agent Jordan Montgomery or trade option Dylan Schiess, the Yankees are a little more serious about their next pitching list, which includes a former Met. are starting to pay attention to Marcus Stroman.

Not only are the Yankees still far apart in Snell's contract, but they haven't been able to get close in trade negotiations — the White Sox want a big prospect package that includes top outfield prospect Spencer Jones. And they're starting to believe Montgomery wants to come back. Go to Texas or some other place. If nothing changes in the coming days, Strowman in particular will continue to be an increasingly viable option.

Here's what they think of the seven pitching possibilities:

1. Snell: Ward will be replaced by Gerrit Cole, the 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner, in place of Snell, the 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner. But, of course, that does not solve the current financial problem: the large gap between demand and offer.

The Yankees seem to believe that Snell wants to be here, speculating that the main competition will be the Giants and Angels, who are less attractive from a competitive standpoint. Of course, it's hard to guess who else will be involved with the pitcher who posted an MLB-best 1.20 ERA over the final four-plus months of last season. The Phillies, the best free agents in baseball, are among those checking in and looking for more starters.

2. Montgomery: The Yankees like him better now than they did when they acquired Harrison Bader and sent him to the Cardinals, but the bigger question is what Montgomery thinks about his return. If the Rangers can resolve their TV issues and sign him to a big contract, some doubt he would want to stay in Texas, where he was an October hero on the way to the Rangers' first World Series victory. The Phillies, Red Sox, Giants, and Angels have all expressed interest.

3. Strawman: It's surprising that the Yankees are pursuing Stroman after past derogatory tweets about general manager Brian Cashman, but it's surprising to see such a talented and stable player like Stroman a few years ago. There are few options other than to consider players who have the feel, durability, and interest in pitching in pinstripes. He was said to be disappointed that he was traded to the Mets instead. The Giants, Angels, Red Sox and Orioles are all considering acquiring the pitcher, who had a great first half last year before being sidelined by nagging injuries.

4. Cancellation: The Yankees have shown little interest in acquiring top prospects from Vanderbilt, led by Jones.

In addition to the most promising Orioles, the Dodgers, Reds, and many other teams are also participating. It has been believed for years that he would be traded, but talks appear to be slow and could potentially wait until his trade deadline.

5. Jesus Luzardo: Negotiations with the Marlins, who are discussing starting pitchers including Luzardo and Edward Cabrera, are said to be “lack of traction.''

6 and 7. Corbin Burns and Shane Bieber: With the Brewers having a great chance in the improved National League Central Division and the Guardians having a chance in the AL Central Division, both teams seem likely to remain, at least until the deadline. There is.
