A former financial manager for a West Virginia nonprofit that helps disaster victims was sentenced Thursday to more than three years in prison for stealing $871,000 from the organization.
Benjamin Sisco, 30, of Charleston, was sentenced in federal court in May 2023 after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud. He was ordered to pay full restitution.
West Virginia University Vice President Rob Allsop plans to resign.
Cisco served as the financial and operations manager for the state chapter of the Volunteer Organization for Disasters (VOAD), based in Arlington, Virginia.
According to court records, Cisco made more than 100 transfers from the nonprofit's account for personal use and requested reimbursement for travel expenses that he was not authorized to receive.

VOAD's state chapter was deeply involved in rebuilding bridges and homes after the 2016 floods destroyed parts of the state and killed 23 people.
State lawmakers recently requested an audit of the organization, which has received more than $27 million in funding since 2016.
