On Friday's FOX News Channel's “The Ingraham Angle,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the 2024 Republican presidential candidate, was promoted by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) He told the House of Commons that the proposed border agreement would be “null and void on arrival”. If DeSantis becomes president, HR 2 will be the only deal he takes.
host Laura Ingraham asked. [relevant exchange begins around 4:05] “McConnell is… escalating his personal efforts to push this so-called bipartisan border reform deal, partnering with Ukraine and Israel for some reason. 1.825 million immigrants entered this country, plus all these guest workers. How are you reacting tonight as we start to come out of this?”
DeSantis responded: “Well, if I were president, I would be dead as soon as I arrived. … Republicans want to deport people who are in the country illegally, and we need to do that. They want to end these crazy border policies that Biden has. Yes, they want a wall, and they want to see it completed. And they want action against drug cartels as well. And what you're likely to see in this deal is typical Lucy with a football, promising that she's going to deal with the border, and, of course, the football being pulled away and I think it’s going to be the same old song and dance.”
Ingraham asked, “So, Governor, you told the Republicans no deal, right?”
Mr. DeSantis responded: The only consensus would be HR2, a House bill introduced by my sponsor, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas). ”
