Giants interview Saints’ running back coach Joel Thomas

The Giants' search for a fourth different running backs coach in the past four years began with a search for stability.

Joel Thomas, the Saints' running backs coach since 2015, was interviewed on Saturday, according to NFL Network.

He previously spent 13 years as a running backs coach at the NCAA Division I FBS level.

After Burton Barnes held the position for the Giants for two years under Joe Judge, head coach Brian Daboll hired DeAndre Smith (who left after one season to become the Colts' running backs coach), then Jeff Nixon. (who stepped down as offensive coordinator at Syracuse last week) was hired. ).

Whether it's Mr. Thomas, who oversaw five-time Pro Bowler Alvin Kamara's entire career, or someone else hired to replace Mr. Nixon, the job comes with uncertainty.

Will Saquon Barkley return on the franchise tag or a multi-year extension, or will the Giants leave their best playmaker alone and add him to a room led by Eric Gray and Gary Brightwell through free agency and the draft?
