‘Feisty’ seal pup found in the middle of a Nantucket roadway

A “wiggly'' and “feisty'' seal pup had to be rescued from a Nantucket road.

The 3-week-old puppy was found crying on Polpis Avenue Wednesday by railroad crossing guard Jamie Grimes, who called the Marine Mammal Alliance of Nantucket for help.

The president said it is common to see lost puppies this time of year, and the alliance received four reports on Thursday alone.

“I wouldn't be surprised if the puppy craze booking places away from the ocean is because of these stormy seas we're experiencing,” she told the Globe. .

Puppies are left alone after three weeks, and some become “disoriented” when their mother leaves them.

The Alliance is urging local residents not to get involved if they spot a seal in its natural habitat and instead seek help.
