A group of middle school students in Maryland was recorded physically attacking a classmate at a bus stop while others laughed and egged them on, creating quite a disruption in the online clips.
Five students have been charged following a street fight in Baltimore that erupted shortly after school let out on April 20th, as captured by an eyewitness.
The disturbing video depicted the victim on the ground, curled up in a fetal position, attempting to shield his head from the ongoing kicks, punches, and stomps from what seemed to be a group of six against one.
It appeared that at least six individuals, mainly girls, were involved in attacking the boy, while several onlookers filmed the event, cheering on the violence.
Many spectators were shown laughing as shoes flew during the incident, with some kids seemingly tossing their shoes aside to join in the attack.
A local law firm that shared the video expressed concern, stating that such daytime brawls are becoming increasingly common among middle schoolers in the Baltimore area.
According to police, five juveniles connected to the fight face second-degree assault charges. However, two others could not be charged due to being younger than 13. Most of the kids involved were aged between 11 and 14, as noted by reports.
No students were taken into custody, but authorities mentioned that they would reach out to parents about the situation.
Mickey Hoppert, a former Baltimore County police officer, remarked on the audacity of the teens, suggesting it’s partly because they feel there’s little accountability for their actions.
“Juveniles often evade consequences for a range of offenses, and from my perspective, this largely traces back to legislative choices. Police are constrained in what they can do,” he stated.
Many viewers of the footage expressed shock at the apparent disregard from the attackers for the victim’s suffering, especially given the number of witnesses present.
One girl voiced her frustration, saying, “I know these people. Oh my god, I hate my school.” Another observer added, “If it were my child, I’d be ready to face a long time in prison.”
