Iconic American actress Marilyn Monroe was married three times in her life, each one filled with problems and conflicts.
According to History.com, Monroe married American police officer James Dougherty at the age of 16, but the relationship lasted only four years.
Monroe's second marriage was one of her most memorable due to the short duration of the relationship and the fact that her groom was a baseball star for the New York Yankees.

According to History.com, two reporters gathered outside City Hall, although some claim that Monroe told someone about the wedding, who eventually leaked it to the press.
The newlyweds went on a honeymoon to Japan, and that's when the problems between the couple apparently started.

Mr. Monroe was asked to perform in South Korea for American soldiers stationed there, and he went on his honeymoon for that purpose. That reportedly upset her new husband.
According to reports, DiMaggio had always been dissatisfied with his wife's sexual public image. Other reports suggest that he wanted her to quit acting completely.

And then came one of the most iconic photos in entertainment history.
It was a photo of the actress in a white dress, her skirt billowing in the air, standing on a subway grate in the street.
The scene was the filming of the movie “The Seven Year Itch'' that Monroe was filming.

Di Maggio is said to have become furious after filming the subway grate scene.
According to History Online, in October 1954, just 274 days after saying “I do,” Monroe and DiMaggio divorced.

Their marriage ended in disaster, but DiMaggio continued to support Monroe for the remaining years of his life.

After Monroe spent more than six years in a psychiatric hospital, DiMaggio helped get her released from the facility and took her to the Yankees' spring training camp for some rest, according to History.com.
The two never remarried, but when Monroe died of a drug overdose in 1962, DiMaggio helped arrange her funeral.
