Former Republican Bill Kristol, who left the party over his support for Donald Trump, endorsed Nikki Haley the day before the Iowa caucuses began.
“I'm a former Republican. But if I were an Iowan, I would come back to vote for Haley on Monday. Voting against Trump in the Republican caucuses and primaries will be a challenge this winter. It is the most effective way to oppose Trump from spring to spring, and it is a legal and just way.

Kristol has been a longtime adversary of Trump ever since the president traded insults with then-Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), 2015. Long before publicly calling on voters to change party affiliation to influence primaries and caucuses, Kristol called Donald Trump's re-election a “threat to democracy.”
he even once shown He said he would support a military coup against Trump if necessary.
The disconnect between Mr. Kristol and Republican voters is becoming increasingly clear. Despite leaving the Republican Party, Kristol still leads a group called “Republicans for Ukraine,” which advocates for tens of billions of dollars in additional aid to Ukraine's war effort against Russia. , an increasingly unpopular position with Republican voters.

He went so far as to suggest that Democrats replace President Joe Biden with left-wing pop star John Legend in 2024, calling the “So High” singer “our version.” . [Ukraine President Volodymyr] Mr Zelensky. ”
On Sunday night, Kristol's comments were widely ridiculed. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) tweeted, “Forever neocon and former Cheney Republican Bill Kristol is telling you to vote for Nikki.”
“Do I need to say more?”
