DeSantis, Haley Spent $72M Combined in Iowa to Place Second, Third

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spent a combined $72 million in Iowa, placing them second and third in the Iowa Republican caucus.

The huge amount of money spent to lose Iowa shows how strong former President Donald Trump's grassroots support is in the state.

By the numbers, Haley has spent $2 million more than DeSantis, the most of any candidate. Both represent more than half of the total $123 million in advertising between Republican candidates since Monday.

The following is campaign and outside group advertising spending for Republican primary candidates in Iowa since January 1, 2023 (CNN) report:

  • Haley supporter: $37 million
  • DeSantis supporters: $35 million
  • Trump supporters: $18.3 million
  • Other: $33.2 million

CNN's admissions poll showed positive signs for President Trump on election night.

According to a CNN poll, Trump was the early winner among Republicans who caucused, winning 53% of the votes. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (Republican) came in second with 21%. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley had 18%, followed by anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy with 7%.

The top issue for Republican caucus participants was immigration (40%), followed by the economy (35%), foreign policy (11%) and abortion (11%).

Haley and DeSantis will move to New Hampshire without about $35 million. Opinion polls show Trump leading in the state as well.
