Former Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg announces intent to leave Meta’s board of directors

Former Meta Chief Operating Officer sheryl sandberg On Wednesday, it was announced that she would resign from the company's board of directors.

“With my heart filled with gratitude and my head filled with memories, I have informed the Meta Board that I will not be running for re-election this May,” Sandberg said in a statement. “After I left the COO role, I remained on the board to ensure a successful transition. Under Mark’s leadership, Javi Olivan, Justin Osofsky, Nicola Mendelsohn and their team has proven beyond any doubt that the Meta business is strong and doing well. “I feel now is the right time to retire as I am positioned for the future. , I intend to serve as an advisor to the company and support the Meta team at all times.”

Sandberg, the founder of Lean In and former chief operating officer of Facebook, joined the social media giant in 2008 after spending nearly seven years at Google. In 2012 she became a director of the company.

Sandberg announced his departure from Meta in mid-2022 following multiple controversies that have plagued the company and damaged its reputation among users, lawmakers and investors.

The company is also the subject of an antitrust investigation and has been grilled for its lack of efforts to combat hate on its platform.
