Duchess Kate will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days after undergoing “secret” abdominal surgery on Tuesday.

Kensington Palace said in a statement on Wednesday: “Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales was admitted to a clinic in London yesterday for a scheduled abdominal operation.”

The palace announced that although the planned procedures had gone smoothly, the 42-year-old would not be able to attend royal engagements until April.

“Based on current medical advice, it is unlikely that he will return to duty until after Easter,” the statement said.

The palace neglected to provide further details about the princess's current condition or why she underwent surgery. However, the palace clarified that the incident was “not cancer-related.”

After being discharged from hospital, the Duchess will recuperate at her Windsor mansion with her husband Prince William and their three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

Prince William will not perform any official duties while Kate is hospitalized and immediately after her return.

Shortly after news of her surgery was announced, Buckingham Palace also revealed that King Charles III will undergo a similar procedure next week. His treatment includes correcting his enlarged prostate.
