Ex-Aussie Open finalist Jennifer Brady has another knee surgery

MELBOURNE, Australia — Jennifer Brady, who reached her first Grand Slam singles final at the 2021 Australian Open, is expected to be sidelined for an even longer period of time as she recovers from further surgery on her right knee.

Brady, 28, returned to the tour for the first time in two years after injuring his knee in Cincinnati in 2021, seven months after reaching the final in Melbourne.

“It wasn't easy dealing with injuries and taking time off at the peak of my tennis career, but I was grateful and happy to compete at the highest level again late last year with the All-American Swing,” she wrote. . on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).

“Unfortunately, I had another setback during the offseason and wanted to let everyone know that I will be undergoing knee surgery. He will be out for a period of time.”

When Brady returned to the WTA Tour last year in Washington, D.C., he revealed how difficult it was to be on the road, sometimes waking up in the middle of the night wondering if he would be able to play again.

The American said he plans to return to university to stay close to the game while he recovers.

“During this process, I decided to re-enroll at UCLA for the spring semester and assist the women's tennis team as a graduate assistant coach (under),” she wrote. “While I am disappointed not to be able to compete during this time, I am very excited to be a part of the UCLA tennis team again.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey on and off the court. I plan to get back to ripping forehands soon.”

Brady also reached the semifinals of the 2020 U.S. Open and reached a career-high ranking of No. 13 in February 2021.
