Siggi's Dairy is offering a $10,000 prize if you agree to give up your smartphone for a month.
The New York-based company, known for selling an Icelandic yogurt called Skyr, announced the contest on Wednesday.
“This year we're introducing a new kind of 'Dry January,'” the company's website says. “In exchange for giving up drinking for a month, I challenge you to throw away your smartphone!”
“We believe in the power of reducing distractions and living a simpler life. The number one distraction in our lives today is our cell phones,” Sigis added.
Ten participants will be selected based on the essays they submit to Siggi's.
To ensure contestants don't use smartphones, Siggi's will send participants a lockbox and a flip phone with a month's worth of prepaid SIM cards.
In the end, 10 participants won $10,000 and 60 cups of Sigi yogurt.
Kristina Drociak, Siggi's director of PR and digital strategy, told FOX Business that the contest was inspired by the idea of a digital detox.
“At Siggi's, we believe in simplicity and that less can truly free you,” she said. “Our brand ethos is about stripping away the unnecessary, and we believe that just like reducing the ingredients in yogurt, reducing digital distractions can lead to a more fulfilling life. I am.”
“We recognize the rise in screen time and phone usage in society and the negative effects it can have, which prompted us to launch Sigi's digital detox program for this new year.” Dorossiak added.
“The goal of this program is to show people the benefits of becoming digitally free, and we hope to start new healthy habits in 2024 and beyond.”
