Vice President Kamala Harris said Wednesday on ABC's “The View” that 2024 presidential candidate and former Republican Gov. Nikki Haley (R-South Carolina) should not deny the history of racism in the United States. Stated.
“As the Democratic Party loses some support with Latino and Black voters, your fellow Southeast Asian Nikki Haley said this week that this country has never been racist,” co-host Ana Navarro said. So I'd like to ask you directly: Do you agree that America was never a racist country?”
“First of all, I think everyone agrees that the issue of race in America is not something that should be trivialized,” Harris said. “The history of racism in America can never be summed up in one word. It should not be the subject of a question that is intended to be answered or answered in one word, but that racism has existed throughout our history as a nation and that racism is a negative influence on society. There is no denying its role in our nation's history.
She added, “When we think about it, I think everyone would agree that although it is part of our past and we see traces of it today. We also believe that racism will shape the future of our country. We should collectively work to avoid making decisions, but by denying the existence of racism, denying the history of racism, or suggesting that people were enslaved. We cannot move forward. We benefited from slavery. We will not grow as a country that promotes that approach and the doctrine of misinformation. It is not in our best interest to suggest that America was caused by anything other than slavery. In order for us to move towards progress, we must ban books and ensure that our children do not have a complete history of America. It is not in the best interest of our progress as a nation to deny the ability to benefit from the knowledge of It’s unfortunate that there are people who deny it or overlook it.”
