Joy Behar Critiques Jackson Dart for Trump Introduction
Joy Behar’s disdain for President Trump is well-documented, but she’s also quite critical of those who merely introduce him at events. Recently, she addressed New York Giants quarterback Jackson Dart, who was tasked with introducing Trump at a New York event. Behar argued that this choice would create tension between Dart and his black teammates and stated that he might even need to wear “extra padding” to brace for backlash.
She elaborated on her concerns, mentioning Trump’s long history of discrimination and racism, citing instances dating back to the 1970s. This includes allegations of housing discrimination and racially insensitive social media posts, which she believes reflect poorly on anyone who supports him.
Behar’s harsh remarks came after Dart’s introduction of Trump at a community college to discuss tax cuts enacted last year. Dart began his speech with enthusiasm, cheering “Go Big Blue,” before welcoming Trump on stage. The president reciprocated by praising Dart, saying, “Thank you, thank you. You have so much talent.”
Behar felt Dart’s actions were particularly egregious given the racial makeup of the NFL, remarking, “That’s the very definition of stupidity and racism.” She added, jokingly, that perhaps Dart needs more padding.
Dart’s appearance with Trump triggered considerable backlash, especially from his teammate Abdul Carter, who shared a video of Dart’s introduction with a comment that suggested disbelief. Although Carter later deleted the post, sports commentator Boomer Esiason criticized him for making a childish public display against Dart.
Esiason described Carter’s decision as “ridiculous,” noting that Dart was simply fulfilling an unusual opportunity to introduce the president, regardless of political opinions. He reflected on how many have had similar chances and didn’t let their feelings for a president dictate their actions.
Throughout his rookie season, Carter faced other issues, including arriving late to team meetings and being criticized for his social media behavior and inconsistent performance. Esiason pointed out that Carter himself has made mistakes, reminding him that other players, including his idol, have introduced Trump before without issue.
In conclusion, the fallout from Dart’s decision to introduce Trump highlights not only the divisive political climate but also the tensions that can arise within sports teams and among fans.
