Behind the scenes of the Republican New Hampshire primary, the establishment and illiberal donors are encouraging Democrats and left-wing independents to vote against Trump for former South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley. .
New Hampshire voters have until Friday to change their registered affiliation to vote in an alternative party's primary.
A darling of the establishment, Haley opposes the America First policy because of her views on foreign policy, free speech, government spending, and social policy:
- She said, “Everyone on social media should be authenticated by name.”
- She believes in securing Ukraine's eastern border with American taxpayer funds.
- She said the government should not intervene if parents decide to have their children undergo irreversible, life-altering “transgender” surgery.
- She supports importing immigrants for jobs that would otherwise go to higher-paying Americans.
Many of Haley's policies are also shared by establishment globalists who oppose Trump's return to the White House. Robert Schwartz, co-founder and establishment member of the Primary Pivot super PAC, is trying to “damage” the Trump campaign by mobilizing Democrats and left-leaning independents to vote for Haley.
Schwartz's Super PAC sent 150,000 direct mail messages urging anti-Trump voters to “defend democracy.” Schwartz also raised $650,000 in the last month to spend on anti-Trump messaging efforts. “We are trying to damage Donald Trump because we believe he is an existential threat to democracy,” Schwartz said. Said NPR.
Schwartz acknowledged that it was unlikely to prevent Trump from winning most of New Hampshire's votes, but an increase in Haley's turnout could surpass Trump's vote total. said. “We're not going to stop Trump from getting maybe 130,000 votes here,” Schwartz told Semaphore. “The only way to beat him is to change his denominator.”
Mr. Schwartz's PAC is just one organization targeting Mr. Trump. Additional anti-Trump PACs include “Tell It Like It Is” and “Granite State Votes” both work overtime to bring down the former president.
New Hampshire's top elections official, Secretary of State David Scanlan, said he can see Schwartz's plan being implemented on the ground. “I'm aware of the efforts that are going on because I personally receive mailers and text messages,” he said. Said NHPR. “I've heard of efforts like this being done, but this is definitely the most organized effort I've ever seen.”
Democrats and some Republicans have doubts that anti-Trump efforts will be successful. Jeff Weaver, a strategist for Biden candidate Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), said Trump's huge success in Iowa is encouraging left-wing independents to turn the Republican primary to Republican voters. He said he should be able to persuade him. “It's almost inevitable that Trump will be the nominee,” he said.
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R), a supporter of Ms. Haley, downplayed her hopes for the election result. “We always wanted to have a strong second. That's the only expectation we laid out there,” he said. Said ABC News Wednesday.
Sununu's comments are a significant change from previous statements. “I think she’s going to win here in New Hampshire,” he argued. “Nikki Haley…could hand Trump a defeat no one thought possible in the coming weeks. And I think it's very likely that that will happen.”
Thursday's polls appeared to confirm Sununu's declining expectations. Trump leads Haley by 14 points with 50% support.Only 6% approved of Suffolk, New Hampshire Gov. Ron DeSantis (Republican). tracking A poll was found.
