No player in the NFL would turn down the chance to play for Bill Belichick.
That includes Kirk Cousins.
Quarterback soon to be free agent told CBS Sports On Thursday, he said he wasn't going to pass up the chance to play for the legendary coach.
Belichick is currently the hottest free agent coach on the market and has been closely linked to the Atlanta Falcons and their vacant coaching job.
Cousins could look for a new team if he becomes a free agent in March, leaving the door open to a possible Cousins-Belichick merger at some point.
“I'm not going to turn down the opportunity to play with a future Hall of Fame coach, but we'll have to see where March goes,” Cousins said. “There are a lot of unknowns at this point.”
Belichick has the resume of a future Hall of Famer who led the Patriots to 17 division championships and six Super Bowls.
Cousins told CBS Sports he has “a lot of respect” for Belichick and said one of his greatest strengths as a coach is his unpredictability.
“We played [the Patriots] On Thanksgiving night last year, I realized this over and over again. [Belichick] It was challenging in terms of coverage, but it was different,” Cousins said. “I always find that when I play him, I feel like I'm looking over my shoulder to see if what I'm seeing is right, because he's always going to break the mold and do something different. “Because he knows that. That's probably what makes him such a great person,” Coach said. “
The veteran quarterback said he doesn't know what his future holds in Minnesota after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 8 against the Packers.
It's unclear what will happen, but Cousins is focused on continuing his NFL career.
“I definitely want to play a few more years of football, so the few years left in me and my football career are spent playing in the playoffs instead of sitting and watching playoff football. “I hope it's football,” Cousins said. “That’s definitely a goal down the road.”
