Next round is Adam Schenk.
On the first day of play at the American Express on the Pete Dye Stadium Course, Schenk sent his second shot into the audience's drinks on the par-5 15th hole.
Fan Brad Hermeyer held up a cup filled with vodka cranberry. According to the PGA Tour — and drank it, with the ball still floating inside.
Whatever Harmeyer toasted, it worked out well for Schenk, who was given free relief, throwing to 10 feet and sinking the birdie putt.
“I'm obligated to have a drink,” Schenck said, before signing Harmeyer's unique pieces and memorabilia.
“You can see it here (the hole) pretty well,” Harmeyer said.
“That's right,” said Mr. Schenck. “I'm very sorry.”
“You have nothing to regret,” Harmeyer told him.
Before it was all said and done, the two took a photo together, and his wife Courtney, who was following him on the course, also took a photo of Hermeyer's cup.
“Birdie from here, Adam,” she posted to X.
But Schenck's luck soon ran out.
On the 17th hole, the American's tee shot went into a water hazard and he finished the par-3 with a bogey.
He finished the round at 2 under, tied for 98th place, eight strokes behind leaders Zach Johnson and Alex Soren.
