An “armed and dangerous” transient burglar entered the homes of the women he was stalking, even taking the time to rearrange one of the victims' furniture, according to the Idaho State Police.
Jacob Smart, 38, was named Thursday as the man sought over the past several months for allegedly carrying out a series of robberies in Boise.
The looter was captured on multiple surveillance videos calmly walking onto the victim's property, at one point even pleasantly petting the homeowner's dog as he chased him through the yard.
He also forced entry by kicking down the door several times, according to the video.
Once inside the victim's home, Smart allegedly stole her underwear, debit and credit cards, and weapons.
Police said Smart has redecorated her home at least once.
“In one robbery, the suspect moved personal items inside the house.” This was announced by the Boise Police Department.
“In another robbery, surveillance video showed a suspect breaking into a victim's home while she was sleeping, stealing her house keys, and then attempting to re-enter the home, only to find that the victim was already asleep. We were exchanging keys.”
Smart is suspected of committing five robberies in Boise between August and October 2023, and may have continued to commit robberies across state lines.
When Mr. Smart was recently taken into custody in Oregon, several stolen items were recovered (including some from the Boise victim), but Mr. Smart fled while police attempted to arrest him.
Smart remains at large, with a nationwide $500,000 extradition warrant pending.
“He is considered armed and dangerous,” police said.
Smart is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 200 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
Law enforcement believes he recently traveled to the Pacific Northwest.
