Four members of an Oklahoma State University fraternity have been arrested for leaving a dead, branded longhorn outside a rival fraternity.
Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity members Bennett Fady, Luke Ackerley, Brody Shelby and Andrew King were charged Wednesday with misdemeanor charges of unlawful disposal of a corpse.
They are accused of dumping a dead longhorn beetle outside the Farmhouse fraternity on Dec. 1, writing the words “Fk FH” on the animal's side and cutting open its abdomen.
The sick act was apparently part of a prank war between the two Floods, court documents revealed. According to the news on the 6th.
Surveillance camera footage showed three men tying a strap to a porch post and a fourth man driving a truck to pull the animal from the bed, police said.
However, after gaining access to the video through a warrant, police announced that much of the footage from the incident was missing.
Investigators said the boys received the carcass from the family of another Alpha Gamma Rho member and borrowed someone else's truck to transport the longhorn. According to News on 6, the car's owner had no idea what the college students were up to.
OSU said at the time that it was “appalled by this disturbing display of animal cruelty.”
Farmhouse Fraternity released a statement after the animal's discovery, saying it was “sickened and surprised” to find the animal's carcass and insisting none of its members were involved.
The animal dumping occurred just before a Big 12 football championship game against the Texas Longhorns. Fraternity members told Stillwater police they believed it was discarded by rivals as part of an ongoing prank war. According to WFAA.
Police said a post-mortem examination showed the cow had been dead for about 36 hours before it was found, and had died of natural causes before being handed over to the boys.
The suspects were booked into the Payne County Jail.
They were released on their own recognizance and pleaded not guilty.
