On CNN International's “One World” broadcast on Friday, Biden campaign co-chairman Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) said, “Several U.S. and British attacks on Houthi launch pads are still in progress. It's not surprising that we haven't been able to stop it.” ”
“The Houthis are really tough,” Coons said. It is not surprising that several US and UK attacks on launchers have not yet deterred the Houthis, but frankly allow them to continue attacking ships passing through the Red Sea. This affected all world trade, with much of the shipping from Asia to Europe and from Europe to Asia passing through the very narrow point where Yemen is separated from the African continent. And President Biden has approached this in a deliberate way. He has assembled a coalition of more than a dozen countries committed to stopping the Houthis. He has gone to the United Nations to advocate for this multilateral action against the Houthis. We got a Security Council resolution approving it, which is in the interests of everyone, including the Chinese, Indians, Saudis, and even the Russians, and it is in the interests of no one, except perhaps Iran. It is different from many other recent conflicts in that the Houthis are disrupting global commerce and diverting thousands of ships around the Horn of Africa.
