Suspect in killing of news anchor’s mom pleads not guilty

A man arrested last month in connection with the murder of a Connecticut newscaster's mother has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges.

Sean Conlon, 44, entered the plea Friday at his arraignment in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Conlon was arrested in Connecticut in late December, 10 months after 73-year-old Claudia Voigt was found dead in her home on February 20.

Investigators initially believed Voight had suffered a medical emergency, but a subsequent autopsy determined she died from neck compression.

Voight's daughter, NBC Connecticut anchor Heidi Voight, announced the circumstances of her mother's death in August.

“My mother's death was neither natural nor peaceful. My mother was violently murdered in what should have been the safest place,” the former Miss Connecticut wrote.
