Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-South Carolina) said Sunday on CBS' “Face the Nation” that there were “multiple incidents” that indicated former President Donald Trump's mental stability was declining. There was,” he said.
Margaret Brennan: Okay. Former President Trump on Friday repeatedly incorrectly said you were responsible for the security response to the Capitol on January 6th, saying your name four times. I would like to play this for the audience.
DONALD TRUMP: They never report the January 6th crowd, you know, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley. You know, they deleted everything, did you know, all the information, all the evidence, everything, destroyed everything. All of it. For various reasons, including Nikki Haley being in charge of security.
MARGARET BRENNAN: It's unclear what you mean by him being removed. But you said yesterday that this made you question Donald Trump's mental sanity. Is this the first time you've questioned his mental state?
Nikki Haley: If you look into it, there's been a lot going on lately. So he's claiming that Joe Biden was going to drag us into World War II. I think he encountered World War III. He said he was running against President Obama. He was never against President Obama. He said I was the one who provided security for Jean from the Capitol on January 6th. On January 6th, I was nowhere near the Capitol. But Margaret, I wouldn't be surprised if someone was 80 years old in office. Mental stability continues to decline. That's just human nature. we know that. What I want to say is, first of all, you're talking about someone who has only been in office for four years. Second, you're talking about people who, I don't know if they were confused or not, keep doing the following: I don't know what happened. But one look at Joe Biden should be enough to send a warning signal that he is much different than he was two years ago. Are we really going to end up in a situation where there's a war all over the world and we're trying to stop the war and we can or can't catch someone? Confused? That's a real problem. That's not rude. That's just a fact.
Margaret Brennan: Why do you think President Trump's voters care about that? And when you served in his cabinet, did you question his mental health? Do you have?
Nikki Haley: When I worked in his cabinet, if he was doing something wrong, I would call him. I mean, I showed up, picked up the phone and said, “You can't do this.'' Instead, you can do X, Y, Z.'' When I was there, I told him what I thought was always in the best interest of the country. But this is different. So we know he's not at the same level as he was in 2016. I think we're going to see some of that decline. But more than that, what I'm saying is focus on the fact that chaos will follow him, no matter what it is. Whether he likes it or not, chaos follows him…
MARGARET BRENNAN: — because of him?
Nikki Haley: — and America is tired. In some cases, he may be the cause. In some cases, this may not be the case. But nevertheless, he is like a magnet to it. So what happens is that all of America is in turmoil and people are tired and worried. I mean, kids in their 20s now don't know if they'll be able to afford a house. They have no idea how this debt will be repaid. They don't know if they will find a job. You can see that 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. People talk about the economy that Donald Trump got us into, which was good, but he put us into $8 trillion of debt in just four years. That's not what you do.
