The two were identified as Venezuelan illegal immigrants Abel Barrios-Estaba, 20, and Rafael Mata-Torres, 25. Barrios-Estaba allegedly stole six items of clothing valued at more than $300. Mata-Torres is also accused of stealing 13 items of clothing valued at more than $1,400.
A few weeks later, in early November, Luis Mendez-Gomez, 28, and Frank Montez-Davila, 23, were arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $2,800 worth of merchandise from Macy's, also in Oak Brook.
Officers reported finding stolen items inside the backpacks the two men were carrying.
Also in November, DuPage County officials warned State Attorney Bob Berlin reported on a group of five illegal immigrants from Venezuela who were arrested for dash-and-grab robberies at Kohl's and Oak Brook Macy's stores.
A month later, two more Venezuelan immigrants seeking refuge in Chicago were arrested on suspicion of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from Macy's.
