A new poll shows a majority of voters are enthusiastic about a rematch between former President Trump and current President Joe Biden in the 2024 election.
The Decision Desk HQ/NewsNation poll found that about 59 percent of registered voters[n]Too eager” or “[n]”I'm not at all enthusiastic about a rematch between the presidents.” Only about 41% said yes.[v]Very enthusiastic” or “[s]I'm kind of excited about the rematch.”
Trump easily won last week's Iowa caucuses, according to election reports from Decision Desk Headquarters/The Hill. He received about 30% more votes than Hawkeye State candidate Ron DeSantis.
Biden said Thursday that Trump's victory in the Iowa caucuses meant nothing.
“I don't think it means anything to Iowa. The president got 50,000-odd votes, which was the lowest number of votes ever for someone who was elected. You know, the idea that he's going to run away… He can think about whatever he wants, and I'll leave that decision up to him,” Biden said.
Tomorrow, the race for the Republican presidential nomination heads to New Hampshire, where Trump still leads Nikki Haley by (some sort of) point, according to Decision Desk/The Hill polling averages.
The poll also asked voters who they thought would win in a rematch between Trump and Biden in 2024. About 43% of voters said the former president would win, and about 33% said the current president would win. Nearly 7% said they thought that would be the case.[s]About 17 percent said it was “someone else” who would win the president's office.[n]I don't know who will win.
The poll was conducted between January 16th and 18th among 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error for questions about enthusiasm for a rematch between Trump and Biden and who voters thought would win in a rematch was about 3% and 3.1%, respectively.
