Bills need to get younger on defense ahead of 2024 season, ex-NFL star Shawne Merriman says

The Buffalo Bills are just a few plays away from defeating the Kansas City Chiefs and returning to the AFC Championship Game.

But an unfortunate combination of a few bad bounces, missed catches here and there, a few defensive lapses, and a missed game-winning field goal resulted in a 27-24 loss to the Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs. I was defeated. Sunday.

Overall, Bills stars like Josh Allen had a decent game. But former Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman said: Outkick's “Hot Mic” On Monday, Buffalo said they need to work on at least one thing during the offseason.

“I think they need to get younger.” [the] “It’s the defensive side of the ball,” he said. “There's no question about that. And look, Von Miller, he was making some really great plays, not losing passes. He had really great TFLs (tackles for loss). He was in the backfield a lot. He can still do it. But he has to rejuvenate defensively in order to have a chance to get back there again long term.

Merriman pointed to when he was in his prime with the San Diego Chargers. He said there was a time between 2006 and 2010 when the team could have won a Super Bowl or two, but that didn't happen.

“I wouldn't say they're going to have a rebuilding moment,” he said of this season's Bills team. “That's not going to happen. But they're going to have to get rejuvenated defensively as soon as possible to get back into the fight.”
