Terrifying video captures moment monster wave blasts Army garrison door to smithereens

A US military base in the Marshall Islands was attacked by violent forces from the Pacific Ocean over the weekend. A large wave hit the US military post Kwajalein on the island of Roi-Namur on Saturday night, causing destruction and prompting the evacuation of all “non-mission personnel.” There were reports of minor injuries, but fortunately there were no fatalities.

Colonel Andrew Morgan, garrison commander,
Said The statement said: “Last night a series of weather-induced waves caused significant seawater flooding in Lois-Namur. Initial indications are that all personnel are accounted for, but TEAM KWAJ leadership is triple checking. “I am doing so,” he said.

Scuba instructor Eric D. Hanson captured the fateful moment when a series of large waves passed over the base.

At the beginning of the video, floodwaters can be seen cascading down an outside hallway as diner hopefuls, ostensibly still dry, look on in awe.

A man, possibly Hanson, can be heard yelling off-camera, “Close the door! Close the door!”

The sea does not heed the warnings of the warners. Instead, it slams people several feet into the dining room door, sending the broken door flying into the room.

After a short rest, Hanson peered outside and discovered another wave.

“I'm coming in!” he yelled as a wall of murky water laden with debris swept in behind the kitchen.

Another man noted that the latest waves must have been at least 5 feet high, and a woman near the back of the room yelled, “We have to get out of here!”

The water appears to turn off the lights, leaving those trying to eat soaking wet and in the dark.

Hanson later said the waves were “a 1.2-foot tide just after low tide, so it could have been much worse. We're very thankful that no one was seriously injured.”

report One person was taken to a medical clinic on Kwajalein Island with lower body injuries and is currently in stable condition, Army spokesman Mike Brantley said.

The garrison said 80 residents of Loi-Namur were eventually escorted to a public works warehouse, where they received a hot meal and a key to a room in temporary housing in Kwajalein.

Initial aerial assessments on Sunday found that at least a third of the island's northwest side, including the airport runway and various buildings, was flooded. Rocks and coral were reportedly brought onto the island by the storm surge, contributing to the airport having to be temporarily closed.

The full extent of the damage is still under investigation.
