America's “elites” say they will support rationing How much energy and meat should we eat to “fight climate change”, according to a recently released poll by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity?
January study“Them vs. America: The Two Americas and How This Country's Elites Are Out of Touch with the Average American” is a “1,000 Member of the Elite” study conducted in September 2023 by Scott Rasmussen. Based on two surveys of
“Elite are defined as people with a graduate degree, an annual household income of $150,000 or more, and living in a ZIP code with more than 10,000 people per square mile, approximately 1 of the total U.S. population. % meet these criteria,” the Unleashing Prosperity Commission study explained.
Of the elites surveyed, 73% identified as Democrats and 14% as Republicans.
“This study also examined a subsample of elites who were adults who attended Ivy League schools and other elite private schools such as Northwestern University, Duke University, Stanford University, and the University of Chicago. Approximately half of those categorized as “were attending one of the following schools.'' “For the purposes of this study, we label those who attended any of these schools as 'Ivy League graduates,'” the study added.
The poll revealed a “significant gap” between elites and the rest of the American public when it comes to economic, social and political standing.
When asked if their financial situation had improved or worsened recently, 74% of elites said it had improved, compared to just 20% of average Americans who agreed.
According to 47% of elites, the United States has “too much individual freedom.” Fifty-five percent of Ivy League graduates agreed, but only 16% of Americans said the same. In fact, while 57% of average Americans surveyed said the government exercises too much control, only 21% of elites and 15% of Ivy League graduates agreed. Ta.
“When Americans are asked whether they have too much or too little freedom, elites are three times more likely than all Americans to say that America has too much individual freedom. Nearly every 10 graduates of elite universities 6 people think they have “too much freedom'', the study found.
77% of elites and 89% of Ivy League graduates say they support “strict rationing of gas, meat, and electricity” to combat climate change, but only 28% of all Americans agree %was. Polls show that half to two-thirds of elites and more than two-thirds of Ivy League graduates support bans on gas stoves, gasoline-powered cars, non-essential air travel, SUVs and private air conditioners. .
The survey also found that elites and Ivy League graduates have more favorable opinions of lawyers, lobbyists, union leaders, and journalists than the average American.
“Perhaps unsurprisingly, at a time when President Biden's approval rating among voters was in the low 40s, his performance received approval from 84% of elites,” the poll found. Only 44% of all Americans said they supported Biden.
“Data shows that 70% of elites trust their government to do the right thing most of the time, more than double the national average. Among women, that number rises to an astonishing 89%,” the study notes.
Elites and Ivy League graduates were also more likely to support candidates who believed that teachers, not parents, should decide what students learn.
The Commission to Unleash Prosperity concluded that the elites held views “totally out of touch with the American people.”
“It's important to note that not all members of the elite are elitists. Some don't think much about politics, while others actively support traditional American values such as individual freedom.” Still, given the influence they generate; [sic]the overall view of the elite represents an existential threat to America's founding ideals of freedom, equality, and self-government,” the study concluded.
