McConnell says NH primary of ‘great interest’ but declines to endorse Trump amid mounting pressure

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that the results of the New Hampshire primary are “very interesting,” but he has no news to report regarding support for former President Donald Trump.

“I'm basically not involved in anything like that,” McConnell told reporters after the Republican luncheon. “But if I change my mind, I'll let you know.”

McConnell's comments come as a growing number of Senate Republicans announce their support for Trump in the 2024 presidential election ahead of the New Hampshire primary. Several Republicans have also called on former South Carolina Republican Nikki Haley to withdraw from the race so the party can unite behind Trump's bid for the Republican nomination.

McConnell declared, “I have no news to announce today.'' “We’re watching New Hampshire with great interest.”

Another Trump ally, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), said Tuesday that “there's not a lot of love lost” between Trump and McConnell without an endorsement.

“Everyone knows that,” Tuberville said. “I heard that the former president came after him, but the leadership did not take too kindly to his words.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended his presidential campaign in a video posted to X on Sunday, then endorsed Trump.
