Virginia's Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary and Judiciary Committee on Monday advanced a ban on “assault weapons” and a waiting period for gun purchases.
WRIC I got it. The Senate Judiciary also advanced new regulations for “untraceable” gun parts.
Lori Hass of the Johns Hopkins Gun Violence Prevention Center praised gun control, saying, “I think waiting periods are critical to stopping impulsive violent behavior, including self-harm and violence against others.'' ” he said.
She did not mention that California has a 10-day waiting period for gun purchases, but California led the nation in “active shooters” in 2021.
California also has a ban on “assault weapons” and restrictions on gun parts that Democrats call “ghost guns.”
Philip Van Cleve of the Virginia Civil Defense League opposed gun control in Virginia, saying, “The Constitution is our nation's founding document, and if we ignore it, we are not actually what we think we are.'' “We will not have a country that is completely independent of the rest of the world,'' he said.
