Everytown for Gun Safety Reacts to Supreme Court Case on AR-15 Ban
Everytown for Gun Safety, linked to Mike Bloomberg, has sharply criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to review a lawsuit challenging the ban on AR-15s, labeling it as “reckless.”
This organization is a key player in the gun control advocacy scene and strongly condemned the Court’s choice to consider this “reckless gun lobby challenge.”
Janet Carter from Everytown Law emphasized the significance of the AR-15 ban, asserting, “These laws are important public safety measures and are consistent with the Second Amendment. Six federal appeals courts have upheld assault weapon laws, and we urge the Supreme Court to do the same.”
Following this, Breitbart News reported on two cases the Supreme Court will examine: grant vs higgins and Viramontes v. Cook County. These will be combined to assess whether AR-15 ownership falls under the protections of the Second and Fourteenth Amendments.
The Second Amendment Foundation is involved as a plaintiff in both of these lawsuits.
Additionally, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) pointed out that over 32 million AR-15s and similar rifles are currently in circulation. These firearms are often labeled as “assault weapons” by critics, but precedents, such as Heller and Bruen, affirm that commonly used firearms are protected by the Second Amendment.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that AR-15s and similar rifles have not just recently gained popularity. In July 2022, Breitbart News highlighted data from NSSF showing that there are more AR/AK-style firearms in circulation than Ford F-Series trucks on the road.
