Adrian Griffin’s first comments since sudden Bucks firing

Adrian Griffin was classy in his first comments since being fired by the Bucks.

Despite leading the team to a 30-13 record, second in the NBA, Griffin was fired as Bucks head coach on Tuesday after just 43 games.

Griffin: “I'm grateful for the opportunity the Bucks have given me'' told Bleacher Report. “You can't control everything. I'm happy with the job we did. I appreciate the hard work of the coaching staff.”

The Bucks immediately hired Doc Rivers to replace Griffin on Wednesday.

Griffin had just been hired over the summer to replace Mike Budenholzer.

Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was reportedly heavily involved in Griffin's recruitment, but reports began surfacing midway through the season that Griffin was already losing the locker room.

Griffin's tenure ranks tied for third-longest in history among full-time coaches.

Bucks assistant Joe Planty has been named interim coach.

Griffin was an assistant with the Bucks, Bulls, Magic, Thunder and Raptors before taking the head coaching job with Milwaukee this offseason.

“I've always wanted to be a head coach in this league,” Griffin said Tuesday. “I couldn’t have asked for a better roster. I got to coach Giannis, Dame. [Lillard],Chris [Middleton]Brooke [Lopez]. Dreams come true. I would try it again if I could, but overall I'm just grateful. ”

Rivers, who was in his first season working as an analyst for ESPN's top NBA broadcast team, quickly emerged as the top candidate for the job.

Earlier in the season, the Bucks contacted Rivers to see if he would be willing to fill a veteran role supporting Griffin in his first season. According to The Athleticand the two sat down during the team's trip to Las Vegas for the season tournament.

Now, the voice that guides Griffin is trying to take his job.
