How TNT ended up with surprising ‘CNN Sports’ Doc Rivers report

Anyone who watched the Knicks vs. Nets postgame show on TNT or watched the latest developments for Doc Rivers on social media Tuesday night likely had the same question.

What is CNN Sports?

Adam Lefkow, citing CNN Sports, said Rivers, who joined ESPN after being fired by the 76ers last year, fired first-year head coach Adrian Griffin, 30, earlier Tuesday. He broke the news that he has accepted the head coaching job with the Milwaukee Bucks, citing CNN Sports. -13 records.

Although the report turned out to be correct, it initially caused some confusion as CNN Sports is not a well-known brand, and such news is typically reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic's Shams Charania. It was relayed by one of the NBA's go-to insiders, such as Mr. Chris Haynes is a member of CNN's Warner Bros. Discovery, TNT and he serves as a reporter for Bleacher Report.

Haynes had refuted reports about Xsaid the Bucks and Rivers are working toward an agreement, but as of 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, no deal has been finalized.

The Post has learned that CNN got the scoop but didn't think it was appropriate to intrude into coverage of the New Hampshire primary to report the news on Tuesday night and gave the story to TNT. .

CNN didn't post the scoop on its website until hours after TNT reported it on air, but the article had a CNN staff byline.
