Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) spoke exclusively with Breitbart News on Wednesday about his push to block the sale of Remington and other iconic American brands to Czechoslovakia Group (CSG).
Other brands include Federal and CCI. All brands are part of Vista Outdoor's Sporting Products.
Vance is concerned about the sale because of CSG's ties to the Kremlin and has asked the Committee on Foreign Investment to block the sale.
He outlined his concerns in a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. Breitbart News has a copy of the letter dated January 24, 2024.
The letter reads in part:[CSG has] A long record of wrongdoing and connections with America's adversaries is well documented. ”
Vance focused on the sale of Vista Outdoor Sports Products.
This transaction poses clear risks to our national security. We strongly recommend that you initiate a full security review of the transaction and use every power in your power to mitigate the risks it poses… However, the risks posed by a sale are limited by the size of the transaction and the increased market power it poses. It is not due to CSG has a long and worrying history of national security concerns, particularly its alleged ties to close associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

We cannot afford to let America's arms supplies fall into the wrong hands. CFIUS [Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States] This process is an important tool for protecting Americans from adversaries seeking to exploit domestic vulnerabilities.
“We respectfully urge you to reject the sale of Vista Outdoor's sporting goods business to Czechoslovakia Group until it can be proven that this transaction does not threaten our national security,” Vance said. I concluded.
