Survey: Vance and Kamala Excel in Their Individual Primaries

Polling Insights for 2028 Presidential Primaries

A recent poll has indicated that Vice President J.D. Vance and former Vice President Kamala Harris are both faring well in hypothetical primaries for the 2028 presidential election.

The study assessed potential candidates for the Republican and Democratic parties. Vance led the Republican pack with a notable 40% approval rating. Following him were Donald Trump Jr., who garnered 15%, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with 14% support.

Other contenders lagged behind, with figures in the single digits. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who won’t be governor anymore due to term limits, registered at 8%. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had 5%, while Senator Ted Cruz received 3%, and Tucker Carlson followed with 2%.

On the Democratic side, Kamala Harris, despite her past presidential bid, received 38% support. California Governor Gavin Newsom came in second at 16%. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg each grabbed 9%, with the remaining candidates also in single digits.

The survey encompassed responses from 3,612 U.S. adults between May 1 and May 5, 2026. Although Vance has not declared any presidential ambitions, Trump has hinted that the next nominee could come from his administration.

“The issue is [Democrats]— it’s their policy, which I’m cautious about discussing since I wouldn’t want them to adjust it. I prefer to disagree with it… it’s about the next person. Perhaps they’re already at this table,” Trump mentioned.

He expanded on this, suggesting that there may be others from his circle who could run: “I want them to succeed. Our administration has done great things, and I hope that continues,” he said.

Trump also identified Vance and Rubio as a promising duo, calling their potential ticket “unstoppable.”

Meanwhile, Harris seems undeterred by previous setbacks. During an appearance at Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network convention, she hinted at the possibility of another run, stating, “I might be considering it. I’ll keep you updated on that.”

The findings align with a recent Harvard-Harris poll where respondents showed support for a Vance-Harris matchup, with 50% of Democrats favoring Harris and 48% of Republicans leaning towards Vance.
