That's the point a reporter was about to ask Lions quarterback Jared Goff about when the question seemed more like a backhanded compliment.

During Wednesday's press conference ahead of Sunday's NFC Championship Game, Goff downplayed the situation when a reporter asked him about the Lions' roster. Niners.

“Obviously there are a lot of really good players out there, but maybe not…”

“Oh, thank you,” Goff said prematurely.

“You're welcome — maybe not seen as a superstar, but like the 49ers and other teams –.”

“Okay, don't worry,” Goff interrupted, prompting laughter from around the room.

After the laughter died down, Goff understood the reporter's intent and responded.

“I think we have a lot of great players, but they probably haven't experienced the national stage that a lot of other players have had. Obviously, they have a lot of good players, too. There are a lot of Pro Bowlers and Pro Bowlers.'' There are All-Pro players over there. ”

“But I feel we have a lot of good players as well,” he continued.

The Lions' historic run was highlighted by five Pro Bowl nominations and five players earning All-Pro honors. Offensive tackle Penei Sewell and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown were named to the first team, something Goff made sure to point out during Wednesday's media appearances.

The Lions are returning to the NFC Championship for the first time since the 1991 season and are seeking their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
