Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee are moving forward with impeaching embattled Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Committee announced It will convene on Tuesday, Jan. 30, to consider articles of impeachment against Mr. Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors.
Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) said the committee would conduct a yearlong “comprehensive investigation” into Mr. Mayorkas and “10 hearings into the causes, costs, and consequences of an unprecedented crisis at America's borders.” We have published six reports totaling approximately 400 pages and conducted extensive interviews with U.S. Border Patrol chief patrol officers.
Mr. Green's announcement continues as follows:
Our thorough and impartial investigation revealed Mayorkas' abuse of power and refusal to abide by the law. In November, the 201 Democratic Party voted to refer articles of impeachment against the Secretary to this committee, and now that we completed our impeachment hearings earlier this month, we plan to add those articles next week.
The announcement comes as Senate negotiations on a combination of border security and foreign aid reach a climax. While the deal is seemingly on life support, and the House sending articles of impeachment to the Senate would almost certainly invalidate the resolution, new This could be a step forward.
The commission released excerpts from the records of the patrol chief and deputy chief of the Southwest Border on what the commission called “a number of impacts of Secretary Mayorkas' border opening.”
- Agents had never seen anything like it before historical Number of illegal crossings.

Republican leaders have not said when articles of impeachment will be brought to the floor. But the leadership has worked with Greene to lobby hardline Republicans to allay Republican concerns about Mayorkas' impeachment.
Recent reports suggest that the leadership has secured enough support to impeach Mayorkas, or is very close to it, although the numbers are grim.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) remains in Louisiana recovering from cancer treatment, but his office announced he will return to Washington in February.
Additionally, a special election will be held on February 13th to replace ousted Rep. George Santos (R-New York). The race is expected to be close, and the outcome could have a significant impact on House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-Louisiana) ability to move forward. Along with impeachment.
