A transgender suspect stabbed his mother to death in her New York City home and threw her dog from the 11th floor to its death, police said.
Andre Eugene, 36, has reportedly been charged with murder, aggravated animal cruelty and weapons possession in connection with the stabbing death of Donna Hyman, 58.
Eugene told police that around 7 p.m. on January 19, his mother's small poodle, Gigi, bit him, which led to an argument at the victim's Brooklyn apartment.
Gigi was found near the entrance to the apartment after Hyman's sister reported the incident. The dead poodle had nine stab wounds and was suspected to have been thrown from Hyman's 11th-floor balcony.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney said officers found Hyman's bloody body inside the apartment with 58 stab wounds, including 26 to the head.
Police said Eugene was naked and covered in blood when officers arrived at the apartment.
Eugene is said to have told police that his mother committed suicide, even though there were more than 50 stab wounds that he allegedly inflicted himself.
Eugene reportedly told police, “My mother is dead. She committed suicide.''
However, Eugene also claimed that the small dog had allegedly attacked him, and that his mother stabbed him in retaliation.
Eugene had a dog bite on his thigh and several “shallow” puncture wounds on his chest.
Eugene was taken to Brookdale Hospital.
Kenney said investigators suspect Eugene's stab wounds were self-inflicted.
“We call it the scar of hesitation. We believe it is self-inflicted,” Kenney was quoted as saying. new york post.
