House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) told his fellow Republicans that he intends to hold a vote in the full House “as soon as possible” on whether to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Johnson made the announcement in a letter sent to colleagues on Friday, a copy of which was obtained by Fox News Digital.

“The facts show that President Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas willfully ignore and actively violate our nation's immigration laws,” the speakers wrote. “Rather than accept accountability, President Biden is now seeking to blame Congress for something the president himself intentionally created.”

Johnson noted that polls show illegal immigration is an increasingly pressing issue for American voters.

“The American people know better, and that's why polls show America is overwhelmingly on our side on this issue. When we come back next week, we'll inevitably see the House Homeland Security “The committee will move forward with articles of impeachment against Director Mayorkas,” he said.

“There will be a floor vote as soon as possible thereafter.”

He also reaffirmed House Republicans' support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott amid a tense standoff with the federal government on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I have made it clear that I support Texas Governor Greg Abbott in his heroic efforts to protect the people of our state and all Americans, and that House Republicans will continue to support any policy proposals from the White House or the Senate.” “We reiterate today that we firmly oppose this move,” Johnson said. “It would further incentivize illegal aliens to break our laws.”
