An intruder tried to force his way into a Phoenix home Thursday night, but the homeowner shot the suspect and fled, police said.

Police said information gathered indicates the adult male “attempted to force entry into the residence, where the homeowner shot and killed the male.” KSAZ TV reportedquoting a statement from the Phoenix Police Department.

According to police, the incident occurred in the area of ​​Fifth Avenue and Linwood Street just after 8 p.m. KPNX-TV reported.

Detectives said the suspect fled the home and was later found near 7th Avenue and Linwood Street, KSAZ said, adding that the suspect suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Isaiah Roggenbach. KTVK TV reported.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, KSAZ said.

Police said Roggenbach has since been released from the hospital and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of trespassing, KTVK reported.

The homeowner was not injured, KTVK reported, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
