BERLIN (AP) – A person was taken hostage at a cafe in the southern German city of Ulm on Friday night, but was later rescued unharmed, police said.

Police say an armed man took an individual hostage inside a Starbucks store in the city center around 6:45 p.m. local time. At 8:20 p.m., the suspect left the building with the hostage and attempted to flee.
He was taken hostage in southern Germany but was rescued unharmed.
Police said in a statement that when the assailant tried to flee, officers opened fire and were able to arrest him. The hostages were unharmed.
