The State Department has agreed to sell Turkey 40 new F-16 fighter jets, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The agency also agreed to sell 40 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters to Turkey's neighbor Greece.

Congress was notified today of the sale to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

Turkey also plans to upgrade 79 ships in its existing fleet.

The cost to Turkey is estimated to be up to $23 billion, the agency said.

The Greek purchase price could be up to $8.6 billion.
