We’d Solve the Border if We Controlled White House and Congress Like We Did for Two Years

On Friday's broadcast of MSNBC's “Morning Joe,” U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) said that if Democrats, as in 2021 and “I wish I had the power,” he said. In 2023, “I think we'll find a quick solution that actually solves the border problem.”

“We Democrats don't control every branch of government right now,” Gallego said. “If we had power in the House, the Senate, the White House, we would have the ability to actually address the border issue quickly.” I think we'll come up with a solution. Right now, we don't have one. So we'll have to be the adults in the room and come up with a solution, as always. At the end of the day, this The long-term solution that emerges from the problem will be a combination of border security and immigration reform. But until then, we must first do our best to keep the asylum system intact. Because right now, the asylum system is being abused. If you go to the border and talk to the Border Patrol or the nonprofits that work there, you'll find that people are just trying to take advantage of the system to get work permits. We see that the refugee system is being abused by people. But at the same time, this is no excuse to completely dismantle the asylum system. Morally, I think that's something we don't want to go to as a country. It’s from.”
