George Conway calls Trump an ‘evil man’ with ‘no conscience’ after defamation verdict

Conservative lawyer George Conway says a jury has ruled that former President Trump must pay damages to columnist E. Jean Carroll for defaming her by repeatedly denying allegations of sexual assault. In response, he criticized former President Trump, calling him an “evil person.”

“He's a man who can't control himself,” Conway told CNN's Caitlan Collins on Friday, echoing the rhetoric of the judge presiding over the case. “And he can't control himself, because as we saw during the trial, he's a deeply disturbed, morally deficient human being, with no conscience, no morals, no empathy, no conscience. He's a sadistic person with no compunction.”

Trump was ordered to pay Carroll a total of $83.3 million in damages. The former president owes $11 million in reputation repair programs, $7.3 million in additional compensation, and $65 million in punitive damages.

Friday's jury decision marks the second time Carroll has won damages from Trump in court. She previously earned $5 million in a verdict last year that held her former president responsible for sexually abusing her in the 1990s and defaming her in separate comments.

President Trump vowed to appeal the “ridiculous” libel judgment, which Carroll and his lawyers touted as a “huge victory.”

Conway, the soon-to-be ex-husband of former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, told jurors he had “nothing but contempt” for Carroll and repeatedly “slandered and slandered” her. .

The case began the day after Mr. Trump won the Iowa caucuses and has continued to be intertwined with the primary campaign of Mr. Trump, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, since his victory in New Hampshire. Although he was not required to attend the trial, the former president took time off the trail to appear in court in New York.

Mr Conway said it was “alarming” that people were going to court over politics.

“Many of the people in the upper echelons of his party are well aware of who he is. They talk about who he is behind closed doors,” Conway said in an interview. Highlighted by Mediaite. “They know he's evil, and they know he's sick.”

He went on to say that politicians are not keeping records of Trump's actions and that it's “time to tell” the truth that has covered up “a sex offender, a criminal, a thief, someone who doesn't deserve to be covered up.” '' he claimed. They hold every office, let alone the highest office in this country. ”

“But again, this isn't about politics. It's about right or wrong,” Conway said. “And people need to start seeing it that way.”

Conway's name was mentioned at trial. When Carroll came forward with her accusations against Trump in 2019, her lawyer encountered her at a cocktail party, where he advised her to sue for defamation and advised her to find a lawyer. He said he helped.
