Biden Admin Rolls Out Record-Shattering Border Report in Friday Afternoon News Dump

The Biden administration released record-breaking border encounter reports in a Friday afternoon news dump. The Southwest Border Encounters Report, released later than usual, revealed the shocking reality that nearly 250,000 migrants were apprehended in December.

A report released Friday afternoon shows that Border Patrol agents along Mexico's southwest border apprehended 249,785 migrants who crossed the border illegally between ports of entry in December. That's a 12 percent increase from the 222,018 immigrants apprehended a year ago and more than 11 percent from the Biden-era record of 224,370, set in May 2022. .

A December report showed that in the first quarter of fiscal 2024, the number of migrant encounters at the Southwest border totaled nearly 630,000. More than half of these encounters (325,739) were classified as single adults. The remainder were family units (268,818) and unaccompanied minors (35,118).

“CBP has mobilized personnel and resources to the affected areas and has taken significant steps to address the challenges we are experiencing across the Southwest border,” CBP officials said late Friday afternoon. said in a written statement. “Encounter numbers continue to fluctuate as smugglers and bad actors continue to spread falsehoods and completely disregard the safety and well-being of vulnerable migrants.”

The Tucson and Del Rio areas accounted for more than 150,000 of the nearly 250,000 immigrant arrests in December. There were 80,185 immigrant arrests in the Tucson area in December, an increase of more than 260 percent from the previous December's 22,131 immigrant arrests.

The Del Rio sector reported 71,095 migrant arrests in December. That's an increase of nearly 38 percent from a year ago, when agents encountered 51,701 migrants.

The San Diego area had the third highest number of cases in December. He had 34,372 encounters with immigrants (an increase of 81.4%). This was followed by the El Paso sector with 33,970 (down 39.1 percent).

The Tucson and Del Rio areas accounted for more than 352,000 of the approximately 630,000 encounters along the Southwest land border in fiscal year 2024, which began Sept. 1, 2023.

More than half of the reported encounters involved migrants from countries other than Mexico and the Northern Triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Venezuelan immigrants accounted for nearly 100,000 people. By comparison, just over 200,000 Venezuelan migrants were arrested in the entire fiscal year.

The number of Chinese immigrants encountered at the southwest border also continues to grow. In December, agents encountered nearly 6,000 migrants. This is up from 931 the previous year and five in January 2021, when President Joe Biden took office. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2024, agents encountered nearly 15,000 Chinese immigrants. By comparison, the total number of arrests in fiscal year 2023 was just over 24,000.

Unofficial Border Patrol reports reviewed by Breitbart Texas show a sharp decline in migrant apprehension during the first three weeks of January. Agents encountered just 83,000 migrants along the southwest border, or about 3,777 per day. That compares to about 8,057 cases per day in December.

Seasonal trends and efforts by Mexican authorities to admit migrants in northern border states and return them to south-central Mexico account for much of the decline.

“Consistent with historical trends and increased enforcement, preliminary numbers show that the number of port-to-entry encounters at the Southwest border decreased by more than 50% during the first two weeks of January,” CBP officials said. Stated.
